Cartier-Bresson Image Critique:
I picked this image because the picture seems to be focused on a scene within a large hole in wall. The backdrop is filled with kids of seemingly the same age. The kids also look as though they are laughing and playing on top of rubble created from the broken and crumbled sections of fallen walls. The symbolism within the photo brings to bear a view that the kids are not in distress because of the location or that they may have found a way to pass the time. Maybe the environmental conditions are common and normal to their everyday life. Either way, the photo is intriguing and very eye catching.
The photo represents a frame within a frame. The broken wall is the oval edges of the framing. The jagged edges of the oval create rough variations around the focal points. The composition of the photo is full of uneven lines, shapes and patterns. All of which help portray a story of survival and destruction. I think that adding color would not improve the photo. The expressions of laughter clearly come to the surface in the black and white imagery. The negative space on the edges and upper background help to guide your eye to the focal points. The picture has an asymmetrical balance, allowing for a interesting overall design.

1.Sport Fan Memorabilia: I’d like to do my project on the memorabilia of a sports fan. These photos were selected because of their unique eye-catching qualities and relationship they have to each other. My memorabilia’s an accumulation of mostly three pro sports teams. I could group the items into three separate sport team pictures. To enhance the pictures, special lighting and a flash was used to help the visual texture of the photos. Some of the pictures were taken against light colored flat backgrounds to assist in brightening the natural features of the items, due to the limited indoor and outdoor light. One photo shows actually game worn gear, another shows large scale sport banners* and the third is a picture of post pro activities and events. I’ve been accumulating the special game hats for several decades and purchased these only after a traveling win. The big banners are just a multicolored example of a team logo. To a sports enthusiast, the photos would represent more than just colorful collectibles but also exciting memories. To me they also represent traveling out of town with family or friends, hotel stays, sitting in the stands and eating stadium food. I hope my photos will show that to be a fan is cool, fun and not fanatical.
**The Cleveland Head Indian is a 30 yearold present from a good friend who pasted away last November 2019. I know that the emblem represents a current social issue. An issue that I respect and agree with but have chosen to hold on to the emblem for personal reasons.
2. Evolution of camera equipment: Photography has changed a lot over the centuries. I have a few past cameras and photo video equipment. Many of these cameras were pasted down to me from my father. I think the presentation on each could be interesting. I also have some old storage devices that may add to the photos. To most people the camera and video evolution has made a great deal of difference in how they see the world and what memories they have of the past. The photos will show the old shapes, size, and design of cameras. I tried to set the background in a black or light gray for better contrast to the silver black bases of the older cameras. I could add my new Canon DSLR T7 into the group of pictures to add contrast and character. I’d like to show that old cameras have a beautiful sturdy look when cleaned up and that they carry with them unique stories of the past.
